Aside from a few dips in an otherwise entertaining story, Roswell does much to revive that sort of mysterious mood we felt when Mulder and Scully first tackled the syndicate. Heat Wave and Sexual Healing come to mind instantly. Some episodes fall a bit short on the entertainment scale and seem like nothing more than an hour's worth of steamy, too-hot-for-TV action.
Slowly, but surely more of the story is revealed until, by the end of the first season's final episode, Destiny, we know a whole more of the origins of Max, Michael and Isabel.Ī Roswell DVD Menu.
Throwing in a bunch of hormonal teens (of which all the females are hot) makes for an interesting story and series. It follows many of the conventions, traditions and mythos established and used within Chris Carter's creation. This show was inevitably compared to The X-Files upon its debut and with good reason. Just as the story beings to taper off into something routine the producers and writers throw us a curve, be it a new love interest, more "alien conspiracy" theories or guest appearances and episode direction by Trekkie-favorite Jonathan Frakes. Formulaic as it may be, we were almost compelled to continue watching Roswell. For the most part, Roswell really does combine pieces of the above-mentioned Dawson's Creek, Smallville and The X-Files. Our little town of Roswell quickly goes from silly novelty to alien hometown. Max comes to the rescue by "healing" her with his powers, but scurries off with his friend Michael (Brendan Fehr) before being caught in the act. The fun begins when Parker is shot by a stray bullet at The Crashdown, her family-owned UFO-themed diner.
Season one begins with the typical character introductions, setting up the cast for the three season run. The Show Roswell follows the romantic albeit extraterrestrial escapades of Liz Parker (Shiri Appleby) and Max Evans (Jason Behr).
